Dr. Mallol will create a surgical plan, to help you achieve your desired outcome. Using this plan, Dr. Mallol makes an incision under the person’s chin or inside their mouth where the gum and lower lip meet. He uses a tool to gently stretch the tissue in order to create space where the implant can be inserted. This synthetic material feels and looks just like a natural chin.
After implantation, Dr. Mallol uses fine sutures to close the incision. When the incision is inside the mouth, no scarring will be visible. If the incision is under the chin, the scar is usually undetectable.
Dr. Mallol usually applies a dressing that will remain in place for two to three days. You may experience some tenderness and take the medications prescribed after surgery, which helps with post-operative discomfort.
Following chin surgery, chewing may be limited for a few days and the patient should follow a liquids-only diet until it subsides. Most people experience some form of discomfort after their procedures but this usually goes away within one week with time passing naturally by as well!
The patient should be able to resume normal activity after 10 days. Swelling will settle down in about six weeks, and it’s important not to do anything too rigorous during this time because you might suffer from post-surgery pain or inflammation!
